The Show Me Your Free State Marathon & Ultra offers distances up to 100 miles, with all events starting and finishing at Rosecrans Memorial Airport in St. Joseph, Missouri. This unique race begins in Missouri, crosses into Kansas, and showcases the historic geography where the Missouri River changed course post-1951 flood. Participants traverse a 25-mile loop that follows the riverbank, ventures through the Gladden Bottoms, skirts the Loess Hills, and returns to the start. The trail covers around 138 feet of elevation per loop, featuring roughly 10 miles of paved roads with the rest on gravel or crushed limestone levee trails.
