The Mac Mac Ultra is a flagship technical trail event in Sabie, Mpumalanga, with ultra distances extending up to 200 miles through some of South Africa’s most rugged mountain terrain. Runners face steep, rocky singletrack, demanding boulder fields, high-altitude routes and sustained climbing, moving between indigenous forest and exposed grassland escarpment in a course that rewards both strength and sure-footed skill. Along the way, the route delivers sweeping Lowveld views, striking waterfalls and evocative stretches through the historic mining landscape of Pilgrim’s Rest. It is a stern test of endurance and mental resilience, matched by a strong community atmosphere that gives the event both grit and warmth.
