Experience the thrill of The Squatchy Surprise at South Mountain Reservation in Millburn, New Jersey, where your course is determined by chance! Drawing inspiration from the TommyKnocker Ultra in Colorado, this event challenges your endurance and decision-making. With four different trail loops and a bucket of golf balls matching each loop's color, your route is determined by a random draw. A special black golf ball lets you choose any loop, and your completed loops are tracked with stickers on a chart, so keep your bib visible! As you race, you’ll draw a golf ball before each loop to see if luck is on your side. Decisions intensify at 6PM when you must choose between continuing with the draw or waiting for a 1/2 mile mini loop to open at 6:30PM. Opting for the draw means no switching to the mini loop, and longer loops risk not finishing if time runs short. For a hint of control, a "Charity-Mulligan" allows one redraw for a donation to Bigger Than The Trail, adding a layer of strategy to this unpredictable race.
