The Southern States 200 is a rugged point-to-point mountain trail ultra that traces the storied Pinhoti Trail from near Dalton, Georgia, to the summit of Mt. Cheaha, Alabama’s highest point. Covering just over 200 miles with nearly 28,000 feet of climbing, it offers a long, demanding journey through remote Southern terrain, combining sustained elevation gain, varied trail footing, and the sense of traveling across an entire landscape under your own power. The event is designed to balance its formidable challenge with a strong trail-running atmosphere. The route is fully marked, and aid support is substantial, with numerous full aid stations serving hot, made-to-order food around the clock, plus heated sleep stations set up for runners needing rest along the way. Altogether, it has the feel of a serious, high-commitment mountain adventure with a welcoming, well-supported backbone.
