Set within Philadelphia’s city limits but far removed from the usual urban bustle, this ultramarathon unfolds in Pennypack Park, a surprisingly peaceful stretch of the Fairmount Park system. The course follows Pennypack Creek through a scenic landscape of mature trees, wildlife, and quiet woodland trails, creating a setting that feels much more like a rural escape than a city race. With a strong turnout each year, the event has an energetic yet welcoming atmosphere. The route is designed to be approachable for runners stepping into trail ultra racing, with clear markings and terrain that is not overly technical. Expect a mix of surfaces, including smooth singletrack, wider flat gravel trail, occasional soft or sandy patches near the creek, and a short paved bike-path section on each loop. There is some elevation, but the climbs are brief, making the course highly runnable by trail standards. That relative ease can become its own test, as the steady rhythm offers few natural chances to back off and hike.
