This road ultra follows Saddle Road from Hilo to Waimea on a fully paved course that delivers a demanding point-to-point effort through the heart of the Big Island. The route packs in substantial climbing, with most of the elevation gain coming in the first half before giving way to a long, hard-earned descent, creating a race that rewards smart pacing and resilience. The atmosphere is rugged and no-frills, with an emphasis on self-sufficiency throughout the day. Support is intentionally minimal, so runners need to be prepared to manage their own fueling and logistics, adding an extra layer of challenge to an already tough and exposed course.
